About

Tara Carter was diagnosed with ADHD (mixed type) at the age of 36, only after realizing that much of the symptoms and experiences on social media of others living with ADHD lined up uncannily with things she had just assumed were uniquely part of the way life was for her in particular. Following her diagnosis (and the unlearning of a significant amount of internalized shame), she developed keen interests in biology and psychology to better understand the why and how of not only her own neurodivergent brain but also those of other neurodivergent people and especially the neurotypical experience. Using the powers of neuroplasticity, she found that she could “hack” her behaviors and habits to better succeed in a world that doesn’t often accommodate her needs. This website serves as a repository of her experiments and successes in this area, which she hopes will provide others with resources to similarly empower themselves.

She is originally from New Orleans, Louisiana, where she lived for most of her life. Tara has a BFA from Tulane University and a nearly-finished BS in Biology/Psychology from the University of New Mexico. Currently, she lives in Albuquerque, NM, with her husband.
